Home theatre systems

Life is simple before you get out of college and start working and start a family. It may not be easy but there is relatively more time for some simple pleasures like going out for a movie once in a while. However, once you get into a profession and take on responsibilities, there is very little time for movies. Besides, movie tickets costing as much as they do, most people shudder at the thought of combining an evening out with a movie. It is a sad fact that the only people who can truly enjoy movies in theaters are those who have plenty of leisure and a lot of cash. Fortunately there is an alternative that offers everyone the opportunity of enjoying movies without shelling out big bucks or struggling with a tight schedule. Welcome to the world of home theater systems.

Home theater systems

Home theater systems are nothing more complicated than a few electronic devices that are collected to provide a theater like experience to the viewer. The VCR can be considered as a very primitive form of home theater systems. The VCR was device that allowed people to record television programs and watch movies recorded on tapes. While this saved people the time and cost of going to the theater, the experience was not really thrilling because the television screen was too small, worked at a low resolution, and the sound was hopelessly flat. Technology advanced over the years and the blurred picture quality of the VHS gave way to the HD-DVD and the old television is now being replaed by the HDTV. Sound comes through surround sound systems that can offer a complete Dolby experience in the living room. Home theater systems are the closest that anyone can get to enjoying movies at their maximum quality without physical going to the theater.

Installing a home theater system is quite easy and anyone should be able to do it independently. In case you have any difficulty, there are always professionals willing to do the installation for you. Most systems will come with clear instructions and diagrams.

Components

Your home theater system will not feel real unless you have surround sound. You will observe a noticeable improvement in picture quality but without surround sound you are going to miss out on the "theater" in home theater systems. After you decide on the speakers you need to decide on what kind of screen you prefer. If you choose a screen size smaller than 25" then you will not be very satisfied. The bigger the screen the better it is. If you are planning to buy a HD-DVD player then you must get a HD screen or there is no point. You may not want to buy a DVD player at all and instead go for satellite TV with pay-per-view options. Regardless of all this, the screen you purchase must provide the best picture quality within your budget. Settle for nothing less.

Costs

Home theater systems require some investment but that evens out in a short time even if you watch only 1 movie a month in the theater. Besides this there are other advantages that only come from doing things in your own home. You can pause the movie anytime you wish or go get a snack without missing out on some part. Leave your cell phone on without disturbing anyone.

Home theater systems can cost anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars depending on the components you choose. The good news is that the cost of home theater systems is always decreasing as their market presence grows. These systems were once the exclusive domain of the rich and were considered luxury items but they are now quite reasonably priced and most families can purchase one.

There are several conveniences to having home theater systems and many people are more interested in that than the movie experience itself. Surprisingly, most people do not factor in their savings by avoiding going to theaters. That calculation alone makes it clear that home theater systems are not a luxury item that does not come under the essential items list. If you are a regular movie buff then you will save a whole lot of money by getting one of the better home theater systems.
